Local Shotokan Karate experts shine at British event

Members of the Corduff Shotokan Karate Club were part of an United Shotokan Karate Federation Ireland (USKFI) squad who successfully represented Ireland in the Karate Union of Great Britain’s annual Liverpool Youth Championships recently, and returned with a total of 12 medals: four each of gold, silver and bronze.

The squad was the largest squad the USKFI has taken to these Championships to date, with many of the competitors being selected for the first time. The attitude and spirit of the USKFI competitors on the day was commented on by several officials in the KUGB and all those who took part were a credit to themselves, their clubs and the organisation.

The squad was coached by local sensei Michael Sherlock, from Lucan SKC, and David Royle from Corduff SKC, as well as instructors Jason Smyth (Hartstown SKC), Gino Coates (Baileborough SKC) and James Farrelly (Huntstown SKC).
