Lucan’s Kennedy wins in Limerick

roisinkennedyLucan Cycling’s Roisin Kennedy has won the women’s section of the Cycling Pursuits Limerick three-day event.

The Lucan cyclist went into the final stage on June 1 as joint leader with Rachel Withers of Northern Ireland’s Fintona CC.

Roisin attacked early on the very hilly final stage, at one point leading the combined race of senior men and veterans for over 30 minutes before being overhauled by a group of Race 1 riders, which pulled the women’s bunch back level again.

But Roisin was soon able to stretch her advantage, and was leading the next woman rider by over 10 minutes when she crested the final climb.

Kennedy is in the middle of a hectic race schedule that will see her competing in eight races in only nine days as she makes her final preparations for the Women’s National Road Race Championships, where the Lucan rider hopes to put in a performance to better her bronze medal in 2004.
