Run to Africa from Malahide and Lucan

On September 13, the charity Playing for Life ( is giving individuals and clubs  the opportunity to raise funds for their own sporting organisation, while at the same time supporting PFL’s Run to Africa initiative.

Playing for Life works in Tanzania, Malawi, and Kenya by providing facilities for the development of vocational education and training, community development, and a health awareness programme for children and young adults through sports and sporting activities.

As part of Run to Africa, there will be a 5km charity run in the grounds of Malahide Castle on September 13, and an 8km run in Lucan Sarsfields on September 27.

Local trio make ladies’ Gaelic team of the year

aherneawardNaomh Mearnog’s Cliodhna O’Connor, Round Towers’ Maria Kavanagh and Sinead Aherne of St Sylvester’s, pictured here recieveing her award from Pat Quill, president of Cumann Peil Gael na mBan, were all honoured by their selection on the ladies’ Gaelic Division 1 team of the year, which was announced at Croke Park this week.

Players were selected by opposition team managers who were asked to vote for a team of 15 players whose performances stood out in the division after completion of the league campaigns.
