Swords Taekwondo event a huge success

tkdSportsLink in Santry recently hosted the second Fingal Open Taekwondo championship. Organised by the Ilyo Taekwondo Club (ITC) from Swords and attended by clubs from across Dublin, Ireland and Europe the tournament was a great success and saw 275 competitors taking part, including fighters from Dragon Martial Arts in Blanchardstown, their first appearance at the event.

The tournament was a huge technological step forward, with the Irish Taekwondo Union supporting the event by providing electronic scoring systems for the three rings, assisting with the judging process and turnaround of fights.

Organiser, Paul Sheridan of ITC, said: “Competitions like the Fingal Open give our players a tournament to be proud of, and demonstrate the sport at its highest level in our local region. WTF Taekwondo is an Olympic sport, and although Ireland are still developing its players for the big stage, we have had great success with the Leinster team based in Dublin [at tournaments] throughout the world.”
