Fairyhouse getting ready for Easter Festival

Fairyhouse is gearing up to host the 2010 Easter Racing Festival from April 4 to 6 at the Co Meath venue.
The main feature of the three day festival is the 139th running of the Powers Whisky Irish Grand National on Easter Monday, which this year boasts an entry list of 85 and a prize fund of €250,000.
Among the entries for this year’s marathon contest include last year’s runner up Church Island, last year’s third and recent Cheltenham scorer A New Story, both trained by Michael Hourigan.  Jim Dreaper, trainer of three time Irish Grand National hero, Brown Lad, will be relying on former Welsh National victor, Notre Pere to return National glory to his Kilsallaghan yard.
The Willie Mullins stable is the most represented with 14 entries headed by recent Leinster National winner, Ballytrim, along with Punchestown scorer, Equus Maximus.  Powers Gold Cup winners Aran Concerto and One Cool Cookie, along with Paddy Power Chase runner up, Siegemaster adds plenty of experienced talents to the entry list.
The Powers Whisky Irish Grand National occupies an unique place in the Irish sporting calendar and last year attracted a TV viewership peak of 310,000 viewers, which confirms its status as the race that stops the nation.

Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for the Gift of Sport

On Sunday, March 21, a large crowd is expected at Christ Church Cathedral for the 61st annual sports service. The service is to give thanks and celebrate for all the good benefits that have come from playing and enjoying sports. The service is ecumenical and people of all religions and of all sports are welcome to come to the service. One of the main draws for people coming to the service is the fact that veteran sports broadcaster Jimmy Magee will be the speaker for the service. Foxrock-Cabinteely Club Notes

Registration open day on Saturday, February 27 and Saturday, March 6 from 11am – 2pm each day. Mentors, please advise your panel. Registration forms will be circulated to each mentor early next week. The Dublin under 14 trials continued this weekend. Five of our girls continue to be involved. The panel has been cut from the initial 160 to the current 60. The skill and ability levels are very high among this remaining selection of girls. We wish Emma Barry, Helen Walsh, Niamh Ryan, Kate Byrne and Aoife O’Grady the best of luck. Preseason training and preparations for the Feile continue for our under 14 team which is also supported by some of our under 13s. This weekend they travelled to Wicklow town and took on the Wicklow County under 14 team who themselves are finalising their squad of 30 for their inter-county championship. This was a fantastic game of football. Our girls represented the club extremely well and despite a slow start they pulled away the eventual winners. Gaelic 4 Mothers continues every Monday night in Loreto Foxrock school hall at 6.45pm under the guidance of Tony Myles. If any mothers are interested come along on the night or phone Imelda 0872050612.
